Norristown Fire Department Receives High 'Public Protection' Rating

Norristown is one of only 116 Pennsylvania fire departments to receive the rating. There are more than 2,400 fire departments in the state.

Norristown, PA -- The Norristown Fire Department has received an enhanced Public Protection Classification Rating, the borough announced on its website.

The rating has been increased from a 4 to a 3, which represents an improvement of one rating class, the borough said.

The evaluation, which the borough notes was completed in May 2016 by a private firm, Insurance Services Office, rates fire departments on a scale of 1–10, with “1” being the best mark possible.

“It will hopefully mean lower insurance premiums for some our home and business owners," Municipal Administrator Crandall Jones said on the borough website. "We urge you to contact your insurance company today and apprise them of this new rating.”
