Norristown Fire Station Deemed 'Unsafe,' Department Moving Out

Analysis by the department's engineers led officials to make the move.

NORRISTOWN, PA — It's the end of an era in Norristown.

The Norristown Fire Department's station at 627 DeKalb Street has been deemed unsafe, and the department will move out immediatley, they announced.

The details of what led the station to be determined unsafe were not immediately clear. The decision was made by the department's engineers.

The department's Norristown Hose Fire Co. has two fire trucks and 12 full time firefighters based out of the DeKalb house. They'll move opeartions to Montgomery Hose Fire Co. on 201 W. Freedley Street.

"The relocation will not impact the delivery of fire and rescue services to the community," the department said in a statement.

It's not yet known when, or if, the department will find a new home for Norristown Hose in addition to the Freedley Street station.
