Norristown Gets $375K From State For Major Flood Mitigation Project
Severe weather events have left flood-prone communities like Norristown reeling.
NORRISTOWN, PA β Norristown has received hundreds of thousands of dollars in state funding to improve the area around Sawmill Run Creek. It's part of a larger flood mitigation effort as severe weather events have huge impacts on the region.
The $375,000 state grant provided by the Department of Community and Economic Development and Commonwealth Financing Authorityβs Flood Mitigation Program will help advance the next stage of the culvert repair project.
Grants like these help municipalities already reeling from the high cost of related infrastructure projects as flooding and severe weather events take their toll on the region.

"(Funding at the state level) helps us keep local taxes down and still get needed work done to our infrastructure," State Rep. Greg Scott said in a statement announcing the award. βItβs an honor to help connect local projects with state funding. I look forward to connecting with more area project leads.β
Work has been underway in the area since the summer of 2021 to improve stormwater management and infrastructure. This grant will fund Phase III of the project.
