Norristown Gets $567K In Grants For School Safety

Great news for the Norristown Area School District.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Great news for the Norristown Area School District: they have received a major grant from the state to support safety in all their schools.

The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency announced this week that Norristown would receive $467,756 in safety funding, as well as an additional $170,000 specifically earmarked for an at-risk youth care coordinator. It's the largest grant received by a Montgomery County school.

The grants will be used to purchase new security technology, support behavioral health training, prepare emergency plans, as well as hire hire school resource officers, psychologists, social workers, and more.

“There are so many aspects to school safety – from having updated security equipment and training to ensuring mental health resources are available," State Rep. Matt Bradford said in a statement. "These grants will help ensure our local districts have what they need to keep students and staff safe so they can remain focused on learning,”

The Child Advocacy Center of Montgomery County also received $300,000 for increasing trauma-informed services, while the Family Service of Montgomery County received $298,200 for a youth violence reduction project.

All told, schools around Pennsylvania received $53.7 million.
