Norristown Gets $60K Grant For New School Resource Officer

Norristown Area School District has received a significant grant from the state to hire a new school resource officer.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Norristown Area School District has received a significant grant from the state to hire a new school resource officer.

The $60,000 grant comes from the state Department of Education's Safe Schools Grant program.

The grants for add new school resources officers in districts across the state are meant to "address school violence by establishing or enhancing school security."

There are four Safe School programs who announced funding winners this week: equipment grants, program grants, grants for school police officers, and grants for school resource officers.

More than $2.4 million in grant funding for new resource officers was announced this week. Two other Montgomery County districts also received $60,000 for the same purpose: Hatboro-Horsham and Norristown.

Norristown also received a $24,980.22 equipment safety grant as part of the same round of funding, the state announced the week. Equipment grants are used for the purchase of surveillance cameras, metal detectors, and other security related items.
