A rise in recent crime targeting both Kias and Hyundais has the Norristown Police Department taking action.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Citing a rise in crime targeting specific types of vehicles, Norristown police will give out free steering wheel locks to vehicle owners.

"The need for these steering wheel locks comes amid a growing viral trend regarding the theft of Kia and Hyundai cars," the police department said in a statement. "Norristown Police put out notices in December about this growing trend, and the number of reported thefts has decreased. The locks are a proactive way to continue to prevent further thefts."
