Norristown HS Grad, U.S. Navy Vet, Owner Of Travel Company, Dies At 86

Norristown HS graduate Frederick E. Lobb served in the U.S. Navy before purchasing and operating his own travel company.

NORRISTOWN, PA -- Frederick E. Lobb, 86 of West Norriton passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 23, 2017, at his home. Born April 11, 1930 in Norristown, PA., he was the son of the late Charles W., and Minnie (Blachford) Lobb. And loving husband to Sarah Jane (Henderson) Lobb.

Frederick graduated Norristown High School in 1948 where he was the class president, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1948-1952. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal, the European Occupation Medal, and Navy Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Lobb went on to receive an Associate degree from Ursinus College after he left the Navy. He spent the next 20 years in banking and business development around Norristown and Montgomery County. In 1985 Mr. Lobb purchased a travel company which he later renamed Lobb Travel and enjoyed until his retirement. He and Sarah Jane cruised and traveled the world for many years.

Fred as he was known to all he met, was involved in many community service organizations such as the Norristown Rotary, The Triangle Club of Montgomery Count, Jefferson Fire Co., Montgomery County Historical Society, American Legion-Frank Parker Post, Salvation Army, Valley Forge High Twelve Club, Lansdale Antique Car Club, and the Free and Accepted Masons-Warren Lodge #310. He was a past Lieutenant Governor of the Kiwanis Club. Mr. Lobb was elected to the Norristown School Board and West Norriton Township Board of Commissioners, and served as Chairman of the Montgomery County Convention and Visitors Bureau. He always showed a great sense of pride and civic duty for the city of Norristown where he grew up.

Fred grew up in the Haws Avenue Methodist Church and recently served as an Elder at the Lower Providence Presbyterian Church. Fred enjoyed visiting Norristown friends for morning coffee at Alfredo's, antique cars, and his cat. He was a basketball coach and board member of the old Norristown YMCA where he spent much of his time growing up.

In addition to his wife Sarah, he is survived by his two children; Jeffry A. Lobb (spouse Linda), and Bethann (spouse Dave) Farley. He is also survived by his brother; Charles (spouse Pam) Lobb, six grandchildren, Erin, Justin, Katie, Ryan, Stacy, Kim, three nieces, one nephew, his two loving great-grandsons and two great-granddaughters.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son; Frederick Lobb Jr., and his brother; Alfred Lobb. He was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dear friend to all and he will be missed by many.

Family and friends are invited to attend the viewing for Frederick on Saturday, March 4, 2017, from 9:30 10:45 am, at the Lower Providence Presbyterian Church, 3050 West Main Street, Eagleville, PA 19403. Services will follow the viewing at 11:00 am. Burial will take place in the Lower Providence Presbyterian Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions are made in his name to the Elmwood Park Zoo, 1661 Harding Blvd, Norristown, PA 19401; and/or the Lower Providence Presbyterian Church, 3050 West Main Street, Eagleville, PA 19403.
