Norristown Native Gets Pre-Draft Workout with Sixers

23-year-old Dwayne Davis had a private workout with the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday.

With the NBA Draft scheduled for Thursday night, one Norristown native is hoping to hear his named called by his hometown team.

Dwayne Davis, 23, attended a private workout for the Philadelphia 76ers on Wednesday at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, according to Philly.com. Though the 6-foot-5 guard was initially expected to go undrafted, his work at the pre-draft's Portsmouth Invitational reportedly earned him invitations to workout for several teams, including the Sixers.

Davis grew up as a homeless child in Norristown, before he was placed in the foster care system, along with his siblings, according to reports. He later attended  Strawberry Mansion High School in Philadelphia, where he became a standout athlete.

He then went on to the University of Southern Mississippi, though he did not play basketball until this past season, as a senior, according to gulflive.com. In his one season of college basketball, Davis averaged 16 points-per-game while shooting over 40-percent from three-point land.

That performance led Davis being named the Conference USA Basketball Newcomer of the Year, and he was also named First-Team All Conference USA.

The Sixers hold the 11th pick in the first round of the 2013 NBA Draft, as well as the 35th and 42nd overall picks.
