Norristown Officer Among Protective Contingent On Papal Jet

Several locals were a part of history during Pope Francis’ visit to the city.

One such individual was Norristown Police Officer Brian Saxon.

Officer Saxon was part of the protective detail at the foot of the Papal jet, locking things down on Sunday afternoon before the Pope’s return flight home to Rome.

Officials are calling the law enforcement effort for Pope Francis’ visit historic.

“A massive amount of regional planning went into the Pope’s visit,” said the Horsham Police Community Services on Facebook. “We are being told this was the largest security effort in our history as a nation.”

Throughout the region, traffic was less severe than expected, especially in the suburbs. The forewarned logjam in Montgomery County, and at regional rail hubs like Norristown and Lansdale, never happened.
