Norristown Police Chief Placed On Leave, No Reason Given
Municipal authorities said new police chief Jacqueline Bailey-Davis has been placed on leave.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Norristown police Chief Jacqueline Bailey-Davis has been placed on leave, municipal officials said on Monday in a cryptic announcement that did not provide a reason for the decision.
"This decision was made after careful consideration and is not taken lightly," Municipal Administrator Leonard Lightner said in a statement. "The Municipality recognizes the complexities and challenges associated with leadership in public service and remains committed to ensuring transparency and accountability while respecting the confidentiality of personnel matters."
It's not clear how long the leave will last, or if officials expect Bailey-Davis to return to her post. They also did not give an indication of the nature of the leave, though language used by officials made it plain that the decision was made by the municipality, not by Bailey-Davis.

It's the latest piece of uncertainty and seeming instability surrounding the police department, which has seen several different chiefs and acting chiefs take the helm in the past several years.
Bailey-Davis, the first woman to be named police chief in Norristown's history, took over the job on Jan. 2 of this year. She's a former Philadelphia police staff inspector, and she has a doctorate in public administration.
