Norristown Receives $800,000 In Revitalization Funding

Good news for Norristown.

The borough will receive $800,000 in Brownfields funding from the United States Environmental Protection Agency, they announced Tuesday.

Brownfields are properties where real or suspected environmental contamination has prevented productive reuse of those properties.

The Montgomery County Redevelopment Authority and Norristown will share the funds for assessment, cleanup, and redevelopment of abandoned properties.

EPA officials from the mid-Atlantic region presented the funding to Norristown on Wednesday morning at the intersection of Lafayette Street and Ford Street. The area was selected because officials believed it was emblematic of what redevelopment in a former brownfields area can look like.
