The Norristown Area School DIstrict is getting some welcome financial relief amid the coronavirus crisis.
NORRISTOWN, PA — The Norristown Area School DIstrict is getting some welcome financial relief amid the coronavirus crisis.
Districts across the state are receiving various levels of funding, including $291,000 earmarked for Norristown to help improve access to education among the most needy.
“With school buildings closed because of COVID-19, it’s critical that our schools have the resources and equipment needed for students to continue their learning,” State Rep. Joe Webste (D-Montgomery) said in announcing the funding. "I’m proud that the Norristown Area School District is working to reach all of its students and pleased that state funding will support that work."

The money comes through the Continuing of Education Equity Grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
Specifically, the funding will be used to provide increased education opportunities for individuals who have had their access limited due to the need for technology to participate in class.

The grant can be used to purchase laptops, tablets, WiFi, or other coursework and instructional materials.
School districts will the highest percentages of students in need of this assistance were given priority for funding.
