Norristown Wants To Improve, Modernize Key Intersection, Seeks $419K
Municipal council approved a grant application this week to improve the safety and accessibility of a key intersection in town.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Norristown's municipal council approved a grant application this week to request hundreds of thousands in grant funding from the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to improve traffic signals at a key intersection.
The issue was discussed at the council work session on March 18.
The intersection in question, East Fornance Street and New Hope Street, currently has short, aging traffic lights at each corner. There is a crosswalk only across one quadrant of the intersection, and no crosswalk signals.

There is also no sidewalk on two corners of the intersection, officials noted.
The body unanimously approved the submission of the PennDOT grant application, which could bring $419,713 to the municipality to address those issues through the Green Light Go program.

It's a competitive state grant program, so there's no guarantee that Norristown will receive the funding, but agreeing on the grant amount and to send the application was an important step.
Nearby East Norriton recently received more than $1 million for traffic signal improvements through the program.
