Norristown Student-Athlete Honored with Burlsworth Character Award

NORRISTOWN, PA -- Norristown Area High School senior Joseph Lewandowski received a special award on Thursday.

He was honored with the school's Burlsworth Character Award, which recognizes outstanding character and sportsmanship from a student athlete in the school.

"Joseph represents the ideals and values that Brandon Burlsworth had: to give 100 percent on the field and to stand as a moral example to his team," the school district said.

Lewandowski plays football for the Eagles.

Burlsworth, a gritty offensive lineman, was named to All American and All-SEC teams with Arkansas before getting drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in 1999. He died just 11 days days after being drafted in a car accident.
