Norristown Student Joins Junior National Young Leaders Conference
One of Norristown's brightest will join some of the best middle school students in the country this summer in Washington D.C.
NORRISTOWN, PA — One of Norristown's best and brightest has been selected for a unique national opportunity.
Darrius Whitfield, a 5th grader at Norristown Area School District's Eisenhower Science Technology and Leadership Academy, is headed to Washington D.C. this summer. He'll be taking part in the Envision Junior National Young Leaders Conference, an academic and career development experience with other outstanding middle school students from around the nation.
Darrius was selected for his "exceptional maturity, scholastic merit, and leadership potential," according to organizers.

“Hands down, my favorite part of attending an Envision program was being with motivated students in an environment designed to help us challenge our assumptions, meet new people, and grow," said Amanda Freitag Thomas, the SVP for Envision. "Creating that same learning environment is a central focus for all of our programs."
In Norristown, Darrius plays football, basketball, and wrestling, as well as lacrosse for the Wissahickon Boys Club. He's a member of student council, the Manufacturing Club, and has aspirations of becoming an engineer.
