Norristown Track Star Jonae Cook Signs With Arkansas State

A well-deserved honor for one of Norristown's finest athletes.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Norristown track and field star Jonae Cook signed a National Letter of Intent with Arkansas State University on Friday, earning a scholarship to compete at the NCAA Division 1 level.

Cook has established herself as one of the pre-eminent sprinting talents in Pennsylvania over the past few years. She recently broke the school record in the 60 yard dash indoors in 7.63 seconds. At the PIAA State Indoor Track and Field Championships, Cook placed third in the 60 and seventh in the 200 meter dash in 25.20 seconds.

"Today was a great day for Jonae and also for the program of Norristown track and field," Milton Williams, track coach, said in a video posted by the school district detailing the signing and Cook's career.

Williams praised Cook's unflagging work ethic and humility, describing a coachable athlete who leads her team by example.

Cook will join a talented and deep Arkansas State squad that Williams calls a "mid-major" Division 1 program with a history of producing top-tier talent.

Cook still has an outdoor season left with Norristown, however, with upcoming highlights including the Penn Relays and the PIAA Outdoor Championships.

On Friday, Cook sported Arkansas State gear and sat alongside her family and coach as she officially signed on.

"The dream for so many kids, so many student-athletes, is to be able to do what happened her today," Principal Ed Roth said. "Being able to get money for college, to not just continue an athletic career, but to also use that athletic career to build a bright future."

Congratulations, Jonae!
