NORRISTOWN, PA — One of the most anticipated projects of the Schuylkill River Trail's rejuvenation in the greater Norristown area is nearly complete.

An open house will be held this weekend at the new Trail Junction Center, in the historic structure which previously housed the Norristown Freight Station.

When complete, the Center will be the meeting point of two of the region's largest trails, as the Chester Valley Trail will soon intersect there with the Schuylkill River Trail. The connection will effectively link Exton, Philadelphia, Valley Forge, and Pottstown in one network.

"Open house participants will be able to view the existing site and talk with members of the project team, including the architects and county staff," Montgomery County officials said in a statement.

According to the county, the Center will provide amenities for trail users like bathrooms, water, trail information and maps, bike repairs, and possibly even a small café or refreshment venue. It will also include community space for meetings and events, as well as environmental education exhibits and interpretative materials.

The open house is set for Saturday, Oct. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
