Norristown Trout Nursery To Thank For Blossoming Fishing Season

The Stony Creek Anglers supply the Skippack and Perkiomen Creeks with trout.

It’s a sign of spring as American as baseball: fishermen lining township creeks and rivers, fording out into midstream, waving poles and hoping to cast a spell on what runs beneath.

It’s trout fishing season, and in Montgomery County, business is booming.

Residents are regularly reporting brown trout and rainbow trout over a foot long in the Skippack and Perkiomen Creeks. Several have reported much larger hauls.

The creeks, at time narrow and shallow, are deceptively full of large fish, including trout.

Much of that is thanks to Norristown’s Stony Creek Anglers, Montgomery County’s only co-operatively owned fish hatchery.

The Anglers stock both Skippack and Perkiomen, and are responsible for several other creeks in the region as well.
