Norristown Water Treatment Plant Shut Down Overnight After Leak

A leak in a water transmission main in Norristown led to low water pressure and discolored water as crews repaired the issue.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Crews in Norristown worked overnight to repair a leak in a water main that caused a disruption in service to some area residents, officials said.

The leak in a water transmission main occurred sometime later Monday night along Powell Street in the borough, according to PA American Water.

The leak occurred in a 24-inch transmission main which connects the water treatment plant to the distribution system, officials said.

Some customers experienced low water pressure and discolored water as the repairs were made.

"If you experience discolored water, open your cold water faucets until the water runs clear before using," PA American Water said.

Work was expected to be completed before noon. The Norristown Fire Department reported that all repairs had been completed and normal water service restored by around 6 a.m.
