Norristown's Martha's Food Pantry Wins Major Grant From Giant

NORRISTOWN, PA — A Norristown non-profit organization was among the beneficiaries of the supermarket chain Giant's $500,000 donation to local communities.

Martha’s Choice Marketplace at Catholic Social Services will receive a chunk of that donation, for its role in "creating a future that promotes healthier people and a healthier planet," Giant said. Martha's is one of the region's largest food pantries, and the most visited pantry in Montgomery County.

“Our community partners have always played a crucial role in making a difference in the local communities the Giant Company has served for the past 100 years,” Giant's President John Ruane said in a statement. “To recognize and to help move their projects forward is truly an honor, as together, we can help create healthier communities."

A total of 20 communities around the state received funds:

• Jana Marie Foundation, State College

• Pediatric Cancer Foundation of the Lehigh Valley
• Penn State Health, Hershey
• Power Packs Project, Lancaster
• Ronald McDonald House of Danville, Inc.
• Schreiber Center for Pediatric Development
• Share Food Program, Inc., Philadelphia
• The Caring Cupboard, Inc., Palmyra
• The Food Dignity Project, Forty Fort
• The Salvation Army of Carlisle, Carlisle

Judges made decisions based on online voting results and live presentations made by contestants.
