Overnight Lane Closures Planned On I-76, I-95, Route 1 Next Week

Highways around the region will see lane closures next week. Evening travel could be significantly impacted.

Highways around the greater Philadelphia area will see lane closures over the coming week as a variety of construction work gets underway, and significant delays are possible.

Work will be ongoing on I-76, I-95, Route 1, Route 422, as well as several state highways.

I-76

Single lane closures will be in place in both directions on I-76 in Montgomery County for roadway repair, PennDOT announced.

Closures will impact the area between U.S. 202 in Upper Merion and I-476 in West Conshohocken on Thursday, May 16, from 9 a.m. to 5 a.m. on Friday, May 17.

Work will continue from 9 p.m. on May 17 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 18.

Throughout the week, from Monday, May 13 to Friday, May 17, lane closures are also scheduled on I-76 in Philadelphia.

Crews will be installing Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) equipment between the Girard Avenue and 30th Street exits. Closures will be in place from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each day.

Route 1

More ITS work will be underway during the same period (May 13 through May 17) overnight around Philadelphia and in Bucks County.

Closures will impact soutbound Route 1 lanes in three areas:

  • Between Germantown Avenue and Wissahickon Avenue, s
  • Between Pennsylvania Avenue and Bristol Pike in Falls Township
  • Between Lincoln Highway and Rockhill Drive in Bensalem Township

In Bensalem, a separate road widening project will lean to lane closures from May 13 through May 18, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Route 1 will be reduced to just one lane in both directions between Rockhill Drive and Old Lincoln Highway, while Street Road will be reduced to a single lane between Old Lincoln Highway and Kingston Way.

I-95 and I-295

Moving lane closures will impact traffic on I-95 and I-295 IN Bucks County from Monday, May 13 through Friday, May 17 for pavement marking and resurfacing.

Closures will begin slightly earlier, at 7 p.m., and running until 5 a.m. the next morning.

Repairs will be ongoing on a 13-mile stretch of interstate that includes Bensalem, Bristol, Middletown, and Lower Makefield, PennDOT said.

It's part of a larger $29 million project to make a wide variety of improvements to the corridor.

Route 422

Bridge construction the Valley Forge area will lead to overnight closures on 422 from May 13 through May 16.

Bridge beams will be installed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., leading to to right or left lane clsoures in the westbound lanes between U.S. 202 and Trooper Road.

In addition, from May 15 to May 16, between 7 p.m. and 5 a.m., a right lane closure will back up traffic in the eastbound direction between Oaks and 202.

Motorists in the Upper Providence, Lower Providence, West Norriton, and Upper Merion area should plan for delays.

State Roads

Tree trimming is planned on several roads in Montgomery and Delaware counties from May 13 through May 18. This work will lead to restricted lanes, controlled by flagging, between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.:

  • Bethel Road between Garnet Mine Road and Smithbridge Road in Concord
  • Route 152 (Limekiln Pike) between Beechwood Avenue and Jenkintown Road in Upper Dublin
  • Philmont Avenue between Tomlinson Road and Red Lion Road in Lower Moreland
  • Lederach Road between Schwenksville Road and Larson Road in Upper Salford

Route 29 and adjacent roads, meanwhile, will be restricted in several different areas during the same time period for line striping and related road improvements. Impacted areas include:

  • Route 29 between Miller Road and Harrison Avenue
  • Plank Road between Route 29 and Route 73
  • Otts Road between Miller Road and Route 29
  • Seitz Road between Township Line Road and Fox Heath Boulevard
  • Meyers Road between Seitz Road and Miller Road
