Heavy Rain, Thunder, Flooding Possible As Storm Hits Philly Area

A lengthy dry stretch which has led to drought-like conditions in parts of eastern Pennsylvania will come to a thunderous end Monday.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Storms are set to hit the greater Philadelphia area Monday, with heavy rain and thunderstorms appearing likely, forecasters said.

It's the latest bout of severe weather to hit the area, even as many parts of the state experience drought or abnormally dry conditions. While weather officials touted the rainfall as needed, they urged caution given the possibility of flooding.

"Additional showers and thunderstorms will move across the region today, bringing beneficial rainfall," the National Weather Service's Mt. Holly, New Jersey station said in a statement. "Heavy rainfall with some storms may lead to localized flooding. If you encounter flooded roadways, turn around, don't drown."
