Rain Leads To Flood Risk For Numerous Waterways In Philly Area

Powerful rains left a risk for flooding in several parts of the greater Philadelphia area.

SOUTHEASTERN PA — Numerous parts of southeastern Pennsylvania are at risk for flooding Friday into Saturday as the latest round of rainstorms works its way through the region.

"Several Flood Warnings remain in effect for parts of eastern PA and northern NJ," the National Weather Service's Mt. Holly station said on Twitter Friday morning. "Watch for some possible road closures. Some sunshine returns for a time before some showers arrive late today and tonight."

The Schuylkill River is also under a flood watch at Norristown, where the river was expected to reach a flood stage at 13.2 feet Friday morning. The watch is in place until 5 p.m.

The National Weather Service also projected that the Delaware River will flood Saturday morning, with excess water around 1/2 a foot near New Hope and levels more than 2 feet above the flood stage near Newtown.

The latter two instances would fall just below what constitutes minor flooding along the riverbanks, according to the weather service's projection. At the New Hope-Lambertville Bridge, the water levels sit at 8.08 feet after rising from yesterday's rainfall. The river is projected to crest at 12.5 feet, at which point the lower parking lot of the Lambertville Station Inn starts to flood.

A flood warning is in place for Neshaminy Creek in Langhorne, Bucks County until 3:27 p.m. The crest of the flood was expected Friday morning, but could linger into the afternoon.

The river should reach its highest point near New Hope around 2 p.m. Saturday.

Temperatures throughout the region should be warm on Friday as the storm moves out of the region. A few more fronts are forecasted to hit the area in the coming days.
