Near Record-Low Temperatures, Snow Possible In Philly Area

Snow is possible as wickedly cold temperatures hit the region. Details on timing, and when we'll see 70 degrees again:

PHILADLEPHIA, PA — Near record-low cold temperatures will hit the greater Philadephia area on Monday, as a brutal cold front could bring some snow flurries and some sleet to the area later this week. However, the frigid spell will be short lived, as the region could see 70 degrees again before the week is out.

Scattered flurries are possible Monday afternoon, starting after 2 p.m. The temperature will drop to 22 into the night, and winds of up to 20 miles miles per hour could drop wind chills into the teens or single digits.

The record low temperature for March 28 — 18 degrees in 1945, according to StormFax — could be threatened in some parts.

The National Weather Service notes that while Monday will not be the coldest day of the year, it will be "the coldest day of the year relative to the normal average temp for that day."

"Jan 15 & Jan 30 had days with temps 14-19° below normal," the Weather Service's Mt. Holly station shared on Twitter. "Today? 15-21° below normal!"
