Thunderstorm-Filled Weekend Ahead For Eastern PA: Forecasters

Severe thunderstorms, heavy rainfall and flash flooding are possible in PA this weekend, forecasters say. Here's the latest.

PENNSYLVANIA — A stormy and wet weekend is on tap in the greater Philadelphia area as storms are forecasted to continue to batter the region.

While Friday will bring beautiful springlike weather, with sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 70s, it won't last for long, the National Weather Service says.

Increasing cloud coverage overnight will prompt a gloomy start to Saturday morning, followed by a mainly cloudy and dry forecast for most of the day, save for a few scattered showers in the northeast portion of the state, National Weather Service said. The forecast will take a turn around 5 p.m. with a chance of thunderstorms through the evening and into the wee hours of Sunday morning before 8 a.m. Temperatures should hover around the 78-degree mark.

Sunday will be decidedly more humid, forecasters say, with temperatures in the low 80s and showers and severe thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. The greatest chance for thunderstorms will be north and west of the I-95 corridor, the National Weather Service said. Showers should taper off mainly before 2 a.m., forecasters said.

“There looks to be at least some threat for severe weather and excessive rainfall (potentially causing flooding/flash flooding) Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening,” National Weather Service forecasters said in a morning discussion on Friday. “This is still a couple days away though, so uncertainty remains regarding details.”
