Thunderstorms, Flooding In Philly Area's Monday Forecast

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Thunderstorms and powerful rain could lead to localized flooding around the greater Philadelphia region on Monday, according to the latest forecast.

Thunderstorms are expected to roll into the state during afternoon hours and linger until about 8 p.m., the National Weather Service said. Temperatures are slated to hover around the 80-degree mark.

Although Monday’s thunderstorms aren’t expected to be severe, forecasters say that the storms may produce heavy, brief downpours that could result in localized flooding. Storm winds around 10 mph could also gust up to 20 mph.

“While storms are looking likely to fire during the afternoon hours, their intensity continues to look pretty low, with the highest risk being heavy rains and localized flooding,” the National Weather Service said in a forecast discussion.

Monday’s skies should clear by the evening, with temperatures in the low 60s and “diminishing winds,” according to the National Weather Service.

"The rest of the week will be dry, but keep that umbrella handy today," the agency wrote.
