Timeline For Severe Thunderstorms, 60 MPH Winds In Philly Area
The National Weather Service has released new details concerning when to expect severe thunderstorms in the Philadelphia area on Thursday.
PHILADELPHIA, PA — A powerful storm front that could bring with it severe thunderstorms and wind gusts up to 60 miles per hour is on the way to the greater Philadelphia area on Thursday afternoon, the National Weather Service said.
The unseasonable heat on Thursday — a high of 84 is expected — will give way to the storm front in the early afternoon, forecasters say.
The broad timing for the storm is 1 p.m. to 6 p.m., but the bulk of the storm is likely in the late afternoon. By around 3 p.m., some thunderstorms are possible, but they're mainly anticipated to hit after 4 p.m.

Storms may be "strong to locally severe." Some of the storms could produce hail, along with routine winds up to 15 miles per hour gusts four times that hard.
After a reprieve, "additional showers and thunderstorms could continue into the overnight period," the National Weather Service added.
