Timeline For Thunderstorms, Rain Hitting Philly Area Wednesday

Multiple storm fronts will bring several chances for rain and thunder on Wednesday, forecasters said. Here's what to expect.

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Multiple storm fronts could bring rain and thunderstorms into the greater Philadelphia area on Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service.

The first batch of showers hit parts of the region Wednesday morning. But the more serious storms are likely to hit the area this afternoon.

Showers could start in the early afternoon, with thunderstorms possible after 4 p.m.

Up to a tenth of an inch of rain is expected, forecasters said, although localized amounts in thunderstorms could be higher.

Thunderstorms could linger through the afternoon and early evening until 8 p.m., with showers possibly returning from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., forecasters said.

Wind from 5 to 10 miles per hour is expected, and gusts could reach 20 miles per hour, the National Weather Service said.

A chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 73. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming west in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8pm, then a slight chance of showers between 8pm and 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56. North wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 73. Northeast wind 5 to 10 mph.

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 53. South wind around 5 mph.

Rain, with thunderstorms also possible after 3am. Low around 52. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
