Phillies complete road trip to Washington with a 5-4 loss
Washington pitcher Max Scherzer struck out 15 Phillies on the afternoon but it nearly wasn't enough

A lead going into the ninth inning is not always safe in Major League Baseball. The Phillies found that out Sunday afternoon.
After taking a 4-1 lead in the top of the eighth inning on a Maikel Franco homerun, Washington came back and Anthony Rendon knocked in two runs during the Nationals' half of the eighth inning to make it 4-3.
In the ninth inning, Pedro Severino had an RBI walk with the bases loaded and then Wilmer Difo singled in the winning run in Washington's 5-4 triumph.
