Police Activity In Norristown Causes Major Delays, Shuts Down SEPTA

NORRISTOWN, PA — The Manayunk/Norristown SEPTA line was shut down after a person was struck by a train, sparking police activity and causing major traffic delays during the Thursday morning commute.

The incident began at around 7 a.m. along the SEPTA line near Main and Markley streets and Markley and Marshall streets.

SEPTA's social media page confirmed that an individual was struck by a train. Details on the incident have not been provided, and it's not known what the condition of the individual is or how the incident occurred.

Norristown officials declined to comment and redirected a Patch request for information to SEPTA, which had not responded as of 2 p.m. Thursday.

SEPTA shut down service between Elm Street and the Norristown Transportation Center for about an hour.

Traffic was backed up for some time in the area. SEPTA said that the line was restored to full service by 7:30 a.m. Delays of up to 20 minutes continued on the line throughout the morning.
