Powerful Nor'easter Targets Southeastern PA This Week

Heavy rain, hail, wind gusts up to 60 mph, and even a tornado are all possible.

PENNSYLVANIA — A powerful storm is once again developing with the potential to severely impact southeastern Pennsylvania and much of the surrounding region.

A nor'easter with wind gusts up to 60 miles an hour could bring heavy rain to the area, along with a risk of hail, flooding, and even tornadoes.

Rain will start Monday afternoon. The heaviest parts of the storm are expected to arrive late Monday through Tuesday afternoon, with high winds continuing late Tuesday.

The National Weather Service says there is a risk for severe thunderstorms in the Philadelphia area. Anywhere from two to three inches of rain could fall through most of the region.

For now, though the flash flooding warning is contained to New Jersey, and has not spread into Pennsylvania.

The exact strength of the storm remains unclear, forecasters advise.

"Uncertainty remains high with this system as small shifts in the track could lead to significant differences in the impacts for our region," the National Weather Service's latest briefing on Monday morning states. "A shift closer to the coast could mean even higher rain amounts, more significant flash flooding, and stronger winds further inland, while a shift further off the coast could mean more limited impacts."
