Protect Your Heating Bill Against The Big Chill

Overnight temperatures in the Philadelphia area dipped near or below freezing last night.  The chilly and cool air should have done more than just make you break out the winter pajamas last night and sweaters and jackets this morning; it should have made you realize it’s time to start sealing your door frames and window frames against Old Man Winter.

With the mild temperatures our region has experienced over the past few weeks, it’s been easy to forget about an important task you should do for your home every autumn – seal your window and door frame cracks.

Think of those pesky cracks in your window frames and door frames as vacuums sucking the money right out of your wallet.  Because that’s essentially what those cracks do.  The heat in your house escapes through the window and door frame cracks in the autumn and winter.  Nights like last night, when we had the first bit of autumn chill in the air, your heater was working hard to keep your house warm.  Unfortunately for you, quite a bit of the heat snuck right outside through the cracks in your window and door frames.  That’s money out the door too.

With this being the last weekend in October, it’s a perfect time to head out to your local Home Depot or Lowe’s and get window and door sealers.

Sealing your windows and doors does more than just protect your wallet against inflated heating bills, it will also help keep your house toasty and snug against the cool fall and winter nights that are quickly approaching.
