Rain Could Slam Region Over Weekend: See Eagles Game Forecast

An inch of rain is possible over the weekend, but in what forecasters are calling a "vast departure," the snow drought will go on.

EASTERN PA — Another large storm is heading toward the greater Philadelphia area and temperatures will remain in the 30s and 40s, but early forecast models indicate that the region's near-historic snow drought will continue through yet another significant weather front.

The storm will arrive in the region by around 1 p.m. Sunday and will continue into the night. Saturday night, however, looks to be clear, and there's a good chance that the Eagles divisional round playoff game against the New York Giants in south Philadelphia will not be a wet one, according to forecasters.

On Saturday, the low will sit at around 29 degrees, so conditions could be chilly for both players and fans at the game. But snow is unlikely.

About a quarter of an inch is expected to fall during the day Sunday, with another three quarters of an inch possible into the evening, the National Weather Service said.

"Despite several more storms in the forecast through next week, it appears rain, rather than snow, will fall along the I-95 corridor," AccuWeather said, calling the winter a "vast departure" from typical years.

So temperatures will not plummet below freezing in southeastern Pennsylvania this weekend. And while this same storm could bring snow to parts of northern and western Pennsylvania, the near historic snow drought is expected to go on.

"Philadelphia now is at risk of having a “snowless” winter for the first time since the 1972-73 season, the last time that only trace amounts of snow were produced during an entire winter," the outlet added. "The city gets an average of 7.1 inches of accumulation per season, with 4.6 inches measured as of this time last year."
