Remodeling Of Youth Center In West Norriton Completed

The center houses juveniles awaiting court hearings, those who committed "delinquent acts," and abused individuals.

The Montgomery County Youth Center in West Norriton had a ribbon cutting ceremony on Friday mark the completion of its remodeling.

Sheriff Russell Bono was in attendance, along with Montgomery County Comissioner Josh Shapiro and several other county officials.

The youth center is a 48-bed coed residential facility for juveniles that are awaiting court hearings.

Per Montgomery County’s official website, the center also has other important roles:

12-bed shelter that houses juveniles for minor delinquent offenses and dependency issues, such as runaway, truant, or ungovernable behavior

36-bed secure detention unit that houses juveniles alleged to have committed a delinquent act

Physically or sexually abused juveniles can also be placed in the shelter.

The center also provides the courts with a full “psychosocial” evaluation of its residents, according to the website.
