Robber Targeted Victim Outside Wawa, Stole Car In Upper Merion: Cops

UPPER MERION, PA — A man who attempted to steal two different vehicles in a short period on Tuesday night in Upper Merion has been arrested, police said.

The incident began on Aug. 6 at around 8:50 p.m. at the Wawa on 143 W. DeKalb Pike.

The man approached a victim as the victim was walking out of Wawa, telling him that he was with a large group of armed men and that the victim would die if he did not turn over his vehicle, police said.

Though this was a lie, the victim did not know that, and he soon starting yelling. This caused the suspect, a 34-year-old man from Glassboro, New Jersey, to flee the area, according to officials.

Police converged on the area and soon found the suspect walking near the Chick Fil A, next door to the Wawa. When the suspect saw the officers, he ran and jumped in an unattended, running vehicle and fled the parking lot at a high speed, police said.

Officers were able to stop him nearby at the Fortunoff store, on 125 W. DeKalb Pike, and he was taken into custody.

The man was charged with robbery, theft of motor vehicle, receiving stolen property, terroristic threats, and related counts. He was taken to Montgomery County Correctional Facility where he is awaiting a preliminary hearing.
