The Guinness World Record for the largest game of knock-out ever played was broken at a local middle school.

PHOENIXVILLE, PA -- With hundreds of students, parents, faculty, and staff on hand, Phoenixville broke a Guinness World Record at the middle school on Saturday.

A total of 726 individuals joined in to beat the previous world record for the largest game of knock-out ever recorded.

The previous record for the basketball game was set by the NBA's Dallas Mavericks, who organized 701 people for a single game.

Knock-out involves a group of players lining up behind the foul line. There are two balls in play. The first player shoots a foul shot. If he or she misses, they get to another chance to rebound the ball and score from wherever they can. But as soon as the first player shoots, the next player in line is cleared to shoot.

If the second player scores before the first player, the first player is "knocked out."

Typically played on courts and streets across the country as a game for two or five players, the organization required at the middle school for all 726 was behemoth in scale.

As the game began, aisles were set up across the length of the gymnasium to keep some semblance of order.
