SEPTA, Police Offer No Explanation For Thursday Shutdown In Norristown

The Manayunk/Norristown line was shut down due to "police activity" Thursday, but officials won't say what happened.

NORRISTOWN, PA — The Manayunk/Norristown line was shut down due to "police activity" Thursday morning, causing lengthy traffic delays throughout the area. But officials won't say what happened to cause the closure.

Norristown officials declined to comment Thursday and redirected a Patch request for information to SEPTA, which had not responded as of Friday morning.

SEPTA's social media page appeared to suggest that an individual was struck by a train, but SEPTA has not confimed that publicly in requests from reporters. Further details on the situation have not been provided, and it's not known what the condition of the individual is or how the incident occurred.

Emergency Alerts of Southeastern PA, which collates police and fire scanner reports from around the region, also indicated that an individual described as a "trespasser" was struck by a train. That person then "refused EMS and walked away," they said.

The incident occurred at around 7 a.m. along the SEPTA line near Main and Markley streets and Markley and Marshall streets.

Traffic delays in the area were severe.

SEPTA said that the Manayunk/Norristown line was restored to full service by 7:30 a.m. Delays of up to 20 minutes continued on the line throughout the morning.
