KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — A day of holiday shopping turned violent Sunday at the King of Prussia Mall, when a suspect was injured while exchanging gunfire with an officer, police said.

The events leading up to the shooting began shortly after 2:30 p.m., when a red Nissan Juke fled an Upper Merion Township officer who was responding on bicycle to a hit-and-run reported in the mall’s green parking deck, according to police.

The Juke got stuck in traffic trying to leave the mall property near North Gulph Road and a police vehicle pulled up behind it, authorities said. Seeing the officer, the suspect turned the Juke to the right, jumped the curb and entered the parking lot of Seasons 52 restaurant, driving off a 4-foot stone wall and disabling the car in the process, according to police. The officer got out of his vehicle and approached the Juke on foot, according to police, who said the suspect exited his car with a 9-mm handgun.
