Sixers win 14th straight game Sunday, beating Dallas 109-97

Sixers third in the Eastern Conference standings with the win, four games behind second-place Boston

Philadelphia's 76ers, currently the hottest team in the NBA, won their 14th straight game Sunday afternoon with a 109-97 home win over the Dallas Mavericks.

The 76ers (50-30) are third in the Eastern Conference, four games behind Boston (54-26) as the postseason playoffs are fastly approaching. The Celtics were upset at home 112-106 by Atlanta (24-57) Sunday afternoon.

J.J. Redick led five Sixers in double figures Sunday with 18 points. Ben Simmons threw in 16 points for the winners.

Dallas (24-57) was led by Harrison Barnes with 21 points in a losing effort. Philadelphia is looking for its first NBA championship since 1983, which was also the last time they won 14 games in a row during the regular season, which is a team record. That championship team was led by Hall of Famers Julius Erving and Moses Malone.

Sixers' head coach Brett Brown, 125-283, in his fifth year with Philadelphia commented after Sunday's 12-point win.

"We are growing a culture," he told the Associated Press after the game. "We have tied a record, that's true. But that is never really what's most on my mind."

The Sixers conclude their 82-game regular season with a game at Atlanta on Tuesday and then back home against Milwaukee (43-37) on Wednesday. The first-round of the 2017-18 NBA playoffs begin Saturday April 14th.
