State Of The Art $9.5 Million Coroner's Office To Open In Montco
Officials say the brand new, uniquely customized facility is a major step up from the existing coroner's office.
NORRISTOWN, PA — Montgomery County's brand new, $9.5 million state of the art coroner's office building will hold its grand opening this week, the latest mark of progress in the ongoing redevelopment and reimagination of county government property in Norristown.
The 22,000 square foot facility will be located on the grounds of the Montgomery County Correctional Facility, on 56 Eagleville Road in Eagleville. An official opening ceremony will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at 10 a.m. Officials say the opening marks the beginning of a new era.
"The new facility represents a significant upgrade from the space the County had rented since the mid-1990s," the county said in a statement.

The one story concrete building will include three autopsy rooms, an x-ray room, a walk-in cooler, a walk-in freezer, a closed-in drive through and drop-off area and various administrative offices and support spaces.
Architects with design firm Wick Fisher White said they based the structure of the building based off of stated needs.

"Our team designed a current state-of-the-art facility by conducting multiple interviews with the County Coroner, visits to Coroner's facilities in nearby counties, and extensive research to determine best practices," the firm said in a statement.
The new coroner's office will replace the aging space at the Human Services Center, the former Sacred Heart Hospital building.
The Tuesday event will feature remarks from Montgomery County Commissioners Ken Lawrence and Jamila Winder, as well as Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Michael Milbourne.
