Sterigere Bridge In Norristown To Reopen Weeks Early
The $13.6 million project has shut down the key roadway since March.
NORRISTOWN, PA — The major construction project rebuilding the Strerigere Street Bridge in Norristown is slated to complete weeks ahead of time, officials confirmed.
The bridge will open on Nov. 28. It was not slated to be completed until January. A ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the reopening will be held at the bridge at 11 a.m. on Nov. 28.
The county said the event will "usher in the future of this important route."

The $3.6 million work to repair the hundred-year-old structure, one of the area's key roadways which connects Sterigere to Harding Boulevard, began back in March.
"Montgomery County’s construction contractor will remove and replace the entire existing bridge structure and approaches over Stony Creek to allow for corridor and waterway improvements," the county said when the project began. "This will eliminate the current weight posting of the bridge and improve safety along the corridor and waterway."

It appears that not one single safety issue triggered the decision to reconstruct the bridge, but rather a need for a larger, systemic improvement to both the strength of the bridge and the size of vehicles it could carry, as well as the water flow in the creek below.
About 17,500 vehicles traverse the 85-foot-long, three-span concrete T-beam bridge per day.
Skippack-based H & K Group was the general contractor for the project.
