Months Ahead Of Schedule, Sterigere Street Bridge Officially Reopened In Norristown
The new bridge features sidewalks on both sides, maintenance of the historical facade, improved underlying structure, and more.

NORRISTOWN, PA — One of Montgomery County's most significant infrastructure projects was officially completed this week as authorities cut the ribbon on the new Sterigere Street Bridge in Norristown.
Work was originally slated to be completed by May 2024, but extra efforts were made by both PennDOT and the municipality to expedite the work.
“Montgomery County has made investing in our infrastructure a priority," Commissioner Ken Lawrence said in a statement. "Better infrastructure improves quality of life, reduces transportation costs, and makes the region more attractive for investment and economic growth."

The bridge, which runs over Stony Creek and connects to Whitehall Road and Swede Road, carries some 18,000 vehicles a day. The $3.4 million project was needed to make repairs on the 100-year-old bridge, which had been deteriorating for years.
It marks the 40th bridge the county has rehabiliated since 2016, as commissioners continue to make infrastructure an economic priority in their annual budget.

Thew bridge is 110 feet long with two lanes of traffic and sidewalks on both sides. The new design allows for better traffic flow and better stream flow in the water below. Original "character-defining" features like the stone facade were maintained.
The firm Rummel, Klepper & Kahl, LLP (RK&K) of King of Prussia designed the new bridge, and contracting work was completed by H&K Group of Skippack. McMahon Associates of Fort Washington served as the inspector.
