Supermarket Lidl To Replace Norristown Ford On Trooper Road

A new supermarket is on the way to the intersection of Trooper Road and Ridge Pike.

LOWER PROVIDENCE, PA — A new supermarket is on the way to the intersection of Trooper Road and Ridge Pike, township officials confirmed on Thursday.

Lidl, a German discount supermarket chain, will replace the Norristown Ford at the busy corner.

While the plan to bring Lidl to this intersection was in place for some time — long enough, in fact, that some expressed doubts if it would ever come to fruition — construction has now officially begun.

The juncture presently holds a Wawa and Citadel Bank at one corner and a Burger King at another. Lidl will move into the corner that previously held Norristown Ford, while, according to a recent report in the Times Herald, the fourth, presently empty lot at this intersection will become a Dunkin Donuts.

Lidl has expanded significantly in the region lately, including a purchase of 27 Best Market stores in New York and New Jersey late last year.

It's not the only recent supermarket news in recent days. In November, Lower Providence announced plans to open a new Redner's in the Audubon Village Shopping Center.

Officials are reportedly hopeful that Lidl will be open by the end of 2019.
