Teen Arrested After High Speed KOP Mall Chase In Stolen Vehicle: Cops

The 16-year-old boy sped away from police across the crowded mall parking lot before crashing and fleeing on foot, police said.

UPPER MERION, PA — A 16-year-old boy stole an SUV fled from police at the King of Prussia Mall before crashing it and being captured, authorities said.

The incident occurred back on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at around 5:40 p.m. near the Maggiano's restaurant on 160 N. Gulph Road.

The Volkswagen had been stolen the day by another individual from Springfield, Delaware County.

Police were called when somebody spotted the stolen vehicle, and they found the boy inside the car at the Shake Shack in King of Prussia.

As officers approached, the boy fled, speeding through the crowded mall parking lots, slamming into a parked vehicle and eventually abandoning car in the Blue parking garage, police said.

The boy fled on foot after crashing the car and was captured shortly thereafter, without incident, near Macy's.

The teen was charged with receiving stolen property, fleeing and eluding police, reckless endangerment, and more. He was booked at Montgomery County Juvenile Detention Center.

The individual who originally stole the vehicle has not been identified, and Upper Merion and Springfield Township authorities are working together on the case.

A preliminary hearing is forthcoming.
