Trail Connecting KOP To Schuylkill River Trail Gets $450K Award

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA — A major $450,000 grant has been awarded to the Valley Forge Gateway Trail to help complete a key segment along North Gulph Road.

The money from the state's Local Share Account will cover a significant portion of the $2.1 million estimated cost of the segment.

The half mile section of the trail will run from where the trail has already been built, at Freedom Business Center Drive, along North Gulph Road and to Goddard Boulevard.

At Goddard Boulevard, it will connected with the already constructed segment through the Village at Valley Forge.

Once complete, the 2.8 mile Gateway Trail will connect the Schuylkill River Trail to various points throughout King of Prussia. There are seven segments in total.

“Expanding our trail network gives residents more opportunities to enjoy the outdoors while creating stronger connections between our communities,” State Rep. Tim Briggs, who helped secure the funding, said in a statement. . “The Valley Forge Gateway Trail is an important regional investment, and this funding will help move Segment 5 forward and bring us closer to a more connected and accessible trail system.”

The completed trail will pass through parts of Norristown, Bridgeport, Lower Providence, Upper Merion, Tredyffrin, Upper Providence and West Norriton.

Officials are using PennDOT right of ways to build most of the trail. Improvements are also being made to intersections, including sidewalks, ADA curb ramps, and improved traffic signals.

The state's Local Share Account distributes gaming revenue to quality of life projects throughout Pennsylvania.
