Upper Merion Hires 6 Full-Time Firefighters

it's the first time in Upper Merion's history that the township has employed full-time firefighters.

UPPER MERION, PA — For the first time in its history, Upper Merion Township is employing full time firefighters.

The township announced on Wednesday that they'd hired the six full-time firefighers after they received a $1 million grant earlier this year.

“We have an exceptionally devoted volunteer fire staff, and we are excited to add another level of safety and risk management to the Upper Merion Community,” said Upper Merion Board of Supervisors Chair Greg Philips. “We wish the new hires a long and successful career dedicated to making Upper Merion a safe place to be.”

The grant came from the Department of Homeland Security Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response Program.

Officials said the additional staff will ensure the township is kept safe during hours when volunteer firefighters might be unavailable.

In addition to active calls, the new firefighters will work on smoke alarm installation and public fire education, township supervisor Greg Waks said.
