Villanova wins third NCAA men's basketball title

Villanova beats Michigan for 2018 NCAA title

Just as in 1985 and 2016, college basketball fans are euphoric in and near the city of Philadelphia. Villanova captured its third NCAA men's hoops title Monday night with a 79-62 defeat of national finalist Michigan.

The Wildcats won all six of this year's NCAA Tournament games by double digits, with an average postseason victory margin of 16 points a game.

Monday night's hero was Donte DiVincenzo who came off the bench to drain five of seven three pointers and score 31 points.

"This is what I wanted," he said following the game as he was holding the championship trophy. "And this is what I got."

"When you come to Villanova," Wildcats' coach Jay Wright said Monday, "you come because you want to be a part of something bigger than yourself."

Unlike 1985 and 2016, the Wildcats won a championship game Monday night that wasn't close.

Michigan coach John Bellein complimented the victorious Wildcats after the game Monday night.

"That team right there could win a lot of Final Fours, not just the 2018 one."

Wright continued the praise of his team following the contest.

"It's got to be one of the best teams that won a national championship," the coach said Monday night following the victory. "To win it the way they did it. They set history. They took this one, they weren't given it."
