Water Main Break Shuts Down Main Street In Norristown

Delays are expected throughout the day, authorities said, as multiple detours are in place.

NORRISTOWN, PA — Multiple streets have been shut down in Norristown Friday morning after a water main break, and are expected to remain closed throughout the day, officials said.

The break has closed Main Street at Cherry Street, and Cherry Street between Lafayette and West Penn.

It's not clear exactly what caused the break or how long it will take to be fixed.

"Crews are on site making repairs, but traffic is expected to be impacted for most of the day," Pennsylvania American Water said in a statement.

Detours in place will take eastbound travelers on Main to the right on Barabados, and then left on Lafayette. Westbound travelers will turn right on Dekalb and then left on Airy.

Motorists coming into Norristown from Bridgeport will head straight on Dekalb and then left on Airy.
