Worcester Company Vies for HR Department of the Year Award
The recognition program highlighting the best in Human Resources is in its 20th year.

Innovative Human Resource leaders who have made an impact, effectively aligned their business strategies and delivered powerful results will be honored during the 20th annual Delaware Valley HR Department of the Year Award ceremony on Nov. 16.
Long-time HR professional Scott Rosen, of The Rosen Group, began the recognition program in 1998 to honor the Human Resource achievements from companies located in the greater Philadelphia area. Rosen has seen the event grow from 100 attendees the first year to upwards of 350 now. David Pinette of Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc., and John Forde of Trion partner with Rosen on the annual event.
Each year, judges analyze between 15 and 25 applications, conduct onsite visits and interviews to award HR’s cream of the crop in a variety of categories, including HR Department of the Year; HR Awards for Excellence; CEO of the Year; and United Way Impact Award.

Mark Spool, the lead judge for the Delaware Valley HR Department of the Year Awards, said he and his team use six criteria when reviewing nominees and ultimately deciding the year’s winners. Chief among them are the company’s ability to make a measurable impact and align with the and understand the nature of the business.
“The competition some years is very stiff. When I judge I sometimes throw people off because I say ‘congratulations’ to nominees,” Spool said, adding that to be included among HR’s best is an achievement in itself. “These applicants have something to talk about. They have a story. These are really capable organizations.”
