
John Woffington, who headed North Allegheny High School's tennis program from 1971 to 2009, in October will be inducted into the school district's Hall of Fame.
A graduate of Tarentum High School and Westminster College, Woffington has been recognized as as one of the top scholastic boys tennis coaches in Pennsylvania. At North Allegheny, he amassed a career record of 611 wins and 131 losses.
During his coaching career, Woffington's emphasis on a team concept led to 21 section championships, four WPIAL titles, and PIAA team championships in 2005 and 2009. His squads made the playoffs 27 of his last 28 years and produced 11 WPIAL, two state individual champions and several coaches.
